Resetting the Back Seat After a Dog Trip

A few checks help keep the setup ready for its next use.

Unload before removing the cover

Remove your dog and loose belongings before adjusting the setup. Release attachments as directed rather than pulling on fabric or seams. Take care around seat-belt openings and fitted anchors.

Remove loose debris

Use the cleaning method allowed for the exact cover. Some designs permit shaking or vacuuming; washing instructions depend on the material, seams and backing. Do not assume a water-resistant surface makes an entire cover machine washable.

Inspect the attachments

Look at straps, buckles, anchor points and openings for wear or damage. Refer to the manufacturer about replacement or repair where needed. A cover that no longer attaches correctly should not be treated as ready for the next trip.

Reinstall with the vehicle in mind

Let the cover dry as directed, reinstall it according to its instructions and check access to the restraint system. Keep the cover’s setup and cleaning directions available to anyone else who uses the car.
